Agency Responsibilties

9-1-1 Center

The 9-1-1 Center is the answering point for all communications involving fire, ambulance, rescue and the Sheriff's Department. In addition, dispatch personnel handle the communications link between ambulances from Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne and Dorchester Counties and Memorial Hospital of Easton. They also provide a link to the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Hospital. This same link connects this agency with the Maryland State Police Med-Evac Helicopters which are located throughout the State. Communications are maintained with the Maryland State Police, Natural Resources Police, State Fire Marshal, Maryland Forestry Service, and local police departments. The neighboring counties of Caroline, Queen Anne, and Dorchester are also incorporated in the communications network for purposes of sending and receiving mutual aid. The 9-1-1 Center is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week by highly trained civilian personnel. To insure uninterruptible service, the agency maintains its own generator back up system. This agency is also equipped to handle the special needs of the hearing impaired. We also monitor numerous automatic fire and medical alarms. We remain constantly advised of severe weather conditions and related problems. We also have Enhanced 9-1-1 so that we know the exact location of any given call.
